Measuring Success Project

Started in 2010, the Oak Ridges Moraine Foundation’s Measuring Success research and monitoring project was launched to assess how effective the provincial government, the Oak Ridges Moraine Foundation and all other Moraine partners have been in meeting the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan’s original expectations and targets.  This work has been undertaken in preparation for the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan scheduled legislative review in 2015. The Oak Ridges Moraine

The Oak Ridges Moraine, located in southern Ontario, covers approximately 190,000 hectares of land and stretches 160 kilometres from the Trent River in the east to the Niagara Escarpment in the west. It crosses 32 municipalities and is home to 250,000 to 300,000 people with another 5 million people living close by. The Moraine provides many benefits to southern Ontario and is an extremely vital ecosystem as a result of its unique environmental, geological and hydrological features. The Oak Ridges Moraine:

  • Covers 190,000 hectares and stretches 160 km from the Trent River to the Niagara Escarpment
  • Forms the headwaters of 65 streams owing south to Lake Ontario and north to Lake Simcoe, Lake Scugog, Rice Lake and Georgian Bay
  • Provides drinking water to more than 250,000 people on the Moraine and millions more in the Greater Toronto Area
